Job Profile

As a Simulator instructor, you will be considered a mentor and teacher. Evaluation and Mentoring of company pilots is the primary function of this position. You will be considered the first level of safety and represent the highest company standard of service, safety, and competency.

Qualification

 

  • Obtain and maintain an appropriate aviation medical certificate (if required)

  • ATP Certificate with at least one PIC Type Rating

  • CL30 type rating (preferred)
  • Have held CFI, CFII, MEI qualification (or equivalent, Check Pilot, TCE, TRI, TRE)

    • 6 months delivering training experience or
    • 150 hrs. dual given.
  • Successful completion of Vista America provided instructor training.

  • Professional behavior.

  • Authorization to work in the United States

  • Current unrestricted travel
  • No accidents, incidents or FAA enforcement actions in the last 5 years

Authority & responsibility

  • Conduct current simulator training as per the training POAs & syllabus.
  • Responsible for facilitating the correct application of procedures related to flight operation and service flow.
  • This position does not give a simulator instructor any regulatory authority to conduct 135.293/297/299-line checks.
  • Lead by example as brand ambassador for Vista.
  • Ensure that no behavior is accepted that negatively affects the Vista brands.
  • Does not have any disciplinary authority.

 

Aims & Objectives

The aim of the Simulator Instructor is to provide practical experience via supervised line training as well as provide critical exposure to Vista America operating environment.

The main training objective for Simulator Instructor is that LIFUS ensures:

  • The trainee pilot is safe & able to conform to normal operations in accordance with company standards.

The detailed training objectives for Simulator Instructor during sim training include ensuring each trainee is able to:

  • Safely and efficiently performs normal SOPs in all phases of Flight in accordance with the Fleet specific Flight Standards Manual (FSM).
  • Manage the flight path manually with & without automation under normal operations.
  • Manage the workload to maintain proper situational awareness.
  • Achieve safe & efficient line operations by demonstrating effective decision-making process utilizing DORDAR.
  • Perform effectively monitoring duties and use appropriate intervention strategy (when necessary) to maintain safe aircraft operations throughout all phases of flight.
  • Demonstrate effective communication by conducting interactive threat and Error management-based briefings and always using correct R/T procedures and phraseology.
  • Demonstrate a competent standard of operational and regional knowledge, including published operating instructions and where to source required information.
  • Perform the Service Flow consistently be able to support on Service recovery
  • Demonstrate Commercial Awareness through efficient operational decisions
  • Print, and distribute training material, handouts, documentation for students
  • Present classroom instruction for pilots on any Part 135, training courses.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate programs to determine efficacy; administer performance and written tests in a fair, objective manner as needed
  • Complete training records timely and accurately
  • Maintain familiarity and knowledge of new concepts and innovations, changes in regulations, procedures and improvements concerning the safe operations of training aircraft; maintain full knowledge of all applicable policies, procedures, manuals handbooks and protocol
  • If instructing in the simulator, must maintain all Simulator Instructor currency requirements under part 135 as appropriate to the course you are required to teach.
  • If required for maintaining part 135 instructor aircraft currency, must hold at least a 3rd class medical for the purposes of aircraft operation (if required).

 

Record keeping & Report writing

The Simulator Instructor is required to complete accurate and objective recordkeeping of all training events including:

  • Completion and submission of training documents after each event
  • Objective clear information that reflects actual performance
  • Use of the competency grading system

Communication  

Required effective communication Skills include:

  • Handle trainee conflicts with diplomacy.
  • Offer positive feedback & constructive criticism.
  • Maintain direct communications with the Director of Training including feedback.
  • Refrain from gossip - avoid controversial topics.
  • Participate in the Training monthly meeting.
